They said she'd love it here. Where is was hot, dry, and forbidding. They said it was just like her, perhaps the desert was her soul mate! After all, it was just as dry as she was.
She scoffed. They didn't really know her.
With a wave of her hand, she pushed a stray lock from her face and trudged through the thick land towards the hatching grounds. They would not joke when she towered over them in all her glory. No, they would not even so much as sputter a laugh.
Katence chuckled, imagining their faces when she hatched the rarest breed in the largest size. Her dragon would be the smartest ever hatched, and together they would rule the Fire Alliance.
Of course, a small part of her nearly wanted to cry at the idea of hatching some whimpering extra small thing that wouldn't even be able to fly a cat around on it's back. It was a possibility of course, there weren't many choices for Fires to get.

ClickSitting partially buried under the sands of a vivid, fall sun, a large sparking egg began to shift ever so slightly. Its shell glistened, as though burning in an aura of splashing reds and oranges. Over its marble face, brighter flecks of metallicy red made it quite an eye catcher. He knew what was happening… His bonded had arrived at last…Shifting and rocking his one settle confines, his strong body began pressing on the shell walls. With little effort, due to his large size, the Hatchling male emerged in a shatter of glassy armor. He was free! Now, by a single wistful glance, you could see his true identity. But who would dare take their eyes off of such a creature? It was almost against law. Prominent and long, his face drew from being tucked into his boa like a pensive sword; drawn at the moment of awaken. Ready. His dark red eyes flickered curiously across the vast desert dunes. When he spotted the elegant young woman trudging forth towards the rest of his brethren, he let out a chirp. It was tuned like the hiss of a flame. Quick and demanding. Oh, he’d be a quick minded one… Propelling his young, immature bod forth, it became very obvious of his bright markings. Orange over the silky brown and white. Of course, just as the Widowmakers all were, his body was large for such a young age. At a full length, his height would tower at the Large size. With long, expanding wings, he’d learn to be an excellent flyer, with the exception of a medium speed range, though for long periods of time. His skin was thick, like armor; good for defense. Sparkling just as his egg in the sun. When at length he was within range of his dearly bonded, he barked again. ”You seem lost enough… Can I show you the way, madam?” in a cocky manner, he tipped his skull and raised an eyebrow.

Chance really, that she'd walked near a small clutch of Widowmakers. Chance really, that one of them was meant for her. They were rare, the rarest of all the dragon varieties and it was only fitting for one to hatch for her. Katence slowed at the sound of cracking, and the chirp of her bonded.
Then, in her head she heard him.
"Only if you promise not to eat my friends."
She purred in reply, her velvet smooth voice burning into her thoughts as with a searing pain, their minds became one. Then, just like that, Vierence was born. He bumped her leg with a thick, scaly nose and she ran a finger delicately over his nose with a pleased expression on her face. He was large and strong, just as she'd hoped. Yes, she'd show them all.
No, we'll show them all mistress.
Vier corrected with a bored tone.
Of course.
Kat agreed, the strange presence startling her at first. She'd shared her mind with none for 25 years, and to suddenly have every thought she'd ever had inspected by a being far younger and smaller yet just as wise was terrifying.
Yet exhilarating.
