SO TIE ME TO A POST AND BLOCK MY EARS
I CAN SEE WIDOWS AND ORPHANS THROUGH MY TEARS
I CAN SEE WIDOWS AND ORPHANS THROUGH MY TEARS
Cara was all alone as she traversed up the mountainside. The dirt path with which her sandaled feet touched had been etched into the earth by countless others before her - explorers and what have you, who like herself, were curious as to what or who called its peak home. She was new to the Island, arriving just a few days ago on the newest ship. She and a small handful of others were the only ones who decided to stay - the others eagerly returning to the dreary mainland.
Serena (her twin sister), promised to board the next ship bound to the relatively uncharted Island. Cara knew her sister never lied and was always true to her word - however, the wait was simply killing her. She didn't know anyone and definitely didn't know her way around the place like others. She could only learn by trial and error - like many before her. "They should make maps. They probably do, but I was too excited to grab one - go figure." She was always making stupid mistakes like that and forgetting to grab or take things that were of great importance.
There were countless times where she'd forgotten her cell phone and broke down somewhere, etc. She smiled at the thought and shook her head. She could be quite the airhead at times, having stuff go in one ear and out the other before her brain had the chance to comprehend it.
The dark haired girl winced as her foot collided with a large boulder. See! She proved her lack of concentration and air-headed-ness. She sighed and attempted to ignore the tingling pain that washed over her foot.
Cara fingered the handful of gemstones her mother had given her before she left. They were Topazes, her mother's birthstone. They were given to her as a farewell gift, for both women knew she probably wouldn't be returning back to the mainland anytime soon. The distant rumble of thunder had her scurrying up the pathway and into the large cavern whose mouth gaped open wide and made one feel like they were entering the depths of hell.
Dark brown eyes adjusted to the darkness and she gaped at the sight of a large, regal bird sitting on a well constructed nest. "Oh, I'm sorry…" she gave a curtsy, as that was the only thing she could think of doing. "I didn't mean to intrude, I was just trying to escape the oncoming storm… and…" She glanced away and stared at the floor. She felt guilty about rushing into the Phoenix's home uninvited. "I don't know what I can do to earn your forgiveness for the intrusion - but maybe this will suffice?" She pulled out a blue topaz that gleamed like the ocean and offered it to the pristine bird.
oops, sorry it's long -nervous glance-
