Hot. Dry. Humid. Windy.
That was the way I'd describe the dunes I'd came to, following the pull of something inside me, the sound of a small voice calling me in the back of my mind. I wondered who was calling me, who needed me, what was it they wanted, and why they were contacting me. When I told my mother what I was hearing, she said that I was crazy. That nobody in our family had ever been chosen to be bonded with a dragon, and that I would never be chosen either. She said all those things and yet I felt a need to come to the dunes, to find something, as if something was there waiting for me.
"Hello?"
My scream echoed across the sand dune in every direction, no doubt rolling out over the water as well. I didn't know who or what had called me, but I was hoping that someone or something would answer me and that I wasn't going crazy.
"Is anybody here? I heard you calling! Where are you?"
Shouting again, lord how I hated screaming and shouting. Not only did it hurt the throat, but it would also be a sound to alert danger toward me when I was on the dune by myself, with nothing but a wrapped parcel of bread, cheese, and a sheepskin filled with wine to quench the hunger I was feeling.
"This is stupid.."
"Are you here?"
I called out again to the voice in my head, the voice I couldn't locate but which I could sense was close.

He was awake. Finally. It had certainly taken his bonded long enough to get there. Rolling restlessly in the egg, the small greyling growled, cracking repeatedly at the inside of the egg. He was impatient. It had been far too long, and he knew that the clutch of eggs had been quickly dwindling. The water dragon had wanted to be the first to be awoken, and here he was, the middle of the pack. He gave the brilliant blue egg a few more hard taps before it shattered, leaving him a nice hole to work at. From there, he was able to work his way out quickly, and the blue boy crawled swiftly over the other unhatched eggs, perching on the side of the nest.
There was a young looking male screaming to the heavens near the nest. The sapphire-headed Greyling tilted his head, white eyes locked on his bonded. That was him? He was certainly...loud and hard to miss. With a sigh, the water dragon leaped from the nest, scampering quickly across the sand and skidding up to the boy.
I'm here, I'm here! You can stop your shouting.
[/i][/color] The water dragon huffed heavily, looking up at the boy. From his small size, the dragon at full hight would never exceed his Bonded's size. At the time, as a hatchling, he was absolutely tiny. It certainly took you long enough, I've been waiting for ages! So, let's hop to it, shall we?[/b][/i] -------------- male. small. greyling. click. Cracking. I could have sworn I heard cracking nearby. It reminded me of the sound our chickens eggs made when their peeps were hatching in the chicken coop. Growing up in town and having owned chickens, I easily recognized the sound as it being the sound of something hatching. The question was, what was hatching and where was it? All I could see before me was a lot of sand and some water. Was what I was searching for in the water? Sighing, I was just about to go and take a look when I heard a voice behind me.
I'm here, I'm here! You can stop your shouting.
"Who are you?"
Turning around, my eyes remaining at eye level, I didn't see the small dragon at first. What I did see, however, was a small clutch of rather big eggs. Eggs the color blue and a few others among them. A blue egg? Now there was something I'd never seen before. As I gazed at the eggs though, I could see one had hatched and by following the trail it had left in the sand from the nest, I realized that the baby dragon had left the nest. It had left the nest and come straight toward me. Looking down, I couldn't help but to let out an amused breath before I began chuckling, my eyes crinkling in obvious amusement at the tiny sapphire blue dragon standing at my feet. I could still hear it's voice in my head, though the voice was stronger now. Clearer.
"I'm sorry?"
I wasn't sure what else to say. I mean, I didn't know how long he, or she had been waiting for me. So what else could I say?
"What are we hopping to, exactly? What am I supposed to do?"
Yes, questions. I was asking the baby dragon questions and expecting answers. Man I must have looked like an idiot.
"What's your name? And why me?"
Yes, I was still wondering why a dragon had chosen me. What was so special about me that destiny had chosen me? Sighing inwardly, I bent down on one knee and held my hand out toward the small dragon, palm up, giving the creature the opportunity to crawl up onto my shoulder if it wanted to.
Watching the dragon race up my arm and curl around my neck, it's tail resting on my shoulder and blushed, standing up.
You're going to be a hero! We need to get exploring and learning. You need to learn more about your magical connection and control of water. I don't have a name, you're suppose to name me.
"How about Streaker?"
Streaker? No! What do I look like a naked person?
"Well, you are naked.."
What?! No I'm not! the dragon said before looking at it's scales and then blushing horribly. Oh my god, I am naked! it said, covering its face with it's front claws, making me laugh and rub its head, softly kissing it's small muzzle.
"Let's go somewhere cooler, Streaker.."
I was not streaking.. the dragon retorted, blush still staining it's small cheeks. Dragons don't wear clothes.
"Okay, Streaker.." I said, leaving the dunes with my dragon, hearing my dragon laughing and making a loud GAH! sound in my head..
